Start with head shape. Blade putters suit a stroke with some arc to it. Mallet putters are more stable on off-centre hits and suit a straighter stroke.
Look at how the putter hangs, too. A face balanced putter suits a straight back and through stroke. A putter with toe hang suits a stroke that opens and closes the face. The markers on each listing show this where we have it.
What to check
- Length. Most putters are 33 to 35 inches. If you are unsure, stick with the length of the putter you use now.
- Grip. Putter grips vary a lot and are easy to swap.
- Headcover. Premium putters usually come with one, so check it is included.
- Face. Some putters have a soft insert in the face. Check it is not damaged.
